Countdown to DMO

About VOLKERMORD

With DMO more than two years from release, Völkermord members are not currently focusing on any particular game.

While our last endeavor did not live up to our expectations (R.I.P. Ungrim), we left WAR a tattered and broken game, slowly sinking in the wake of our glory. We claimed every PvP server first and repeatedly broke the backs of Order without mercy. It was unfortunate that the game could not satiate our battle lust, so we have moved on, preparing for what is arguably the greatest established IP for a new PvP MMO: Warhammer 40,000. We are excited about 40k's arrival to the MMO genre and we're dedicated to maintaining our status as a PvP powerhouse as well as a noted leader in PvE. The grim, dark nature of the 40k universe suits us well, and we have embraced it through years of video and tabletop gaming.

We believe that the guild is greater than any one player, each of us is willing to take whatever steps are necessary to ensure a team victory. We are experienced, brutal, and most of our members have MMO roots that go back to EQ, UO, or even MUDs. We are generally hated by all players, regardless of faction - and thats the way we like it. We are the players that top damage/healing/kills in SCs, the players that fight against the odds when others don't have the balls to, the players that enemies flee from & fear.

We are the bulwark, the lance, the tip of the spear. Do you have what it takes to join us? APPLY HERE

E3 Sucks, but at least we got some real 40k info

Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium seems to capture the gritty universe...

Gameplay trailer:

Screenies:

http://yfrog.com/2t0000dmo4j
http://yfrog.com/2t0000dmo3j
http://yfrog.com/1r00000dmo2j
http://yfrog.com/bd0000dmo1j

Though we haven't gotten all the details, we've got some info:

Confirmed Races:
Space Marines
Orks
Chaos Space Marines

Confirmed: Character customization.
Don't want to play a Bad Moon or Ultramarine? Good news! You don't have to!

Confirmed: Vehicles (even titans! holy shit!), still dont know exactly how they will be implemented, but they are there.

Video Breakdown:
As we had nothing better to do yesterday, Andrew, Travis, Mario and myself attempted to draw out as much info as we could about the game from the meager but butthole-puckering offering in the trailer. Kraven has added a few points that need to be looked at as well.

Starting with the obvious, it's clear that Space Marines, Orks, and Chaos Space Marines will all be playable.

There were a myriad of vehicles from Ork DeffKoptas and Trukks to (C)SM Bikes and of course the imposing Titan. Though it's impossible to tell exactly how they will be implemented, the important thing is they ARE implemented. Also on this point, every clip where the Titan appears seems to be in roughly the same location (to the left of an aged titan shell), indicating that it is indeed a scenario-based event rather than random happenstance.

Finally, throughout the trailer are several hints at combat gameplay. Knockdowns, cover, and (sigh) KBs.

0:13 & 0:36
Nurgle monstrosity thing. From the spread he appears to be a mob, not playable. But this implies that nurgle will play a major role in the storylines.

0:18 & 0:44
Chaos Heretic/Cultist. Shows more class choices than merely power-armor clad chaos marines.

0:24 & 0:29
At center is an SM that appears to be in Librarian armor.

0:40
you can see the word 'cover' popping up from the target... more proof we are looking at a Gears-style gameplay

Also we can see four red lines acting as a box-shaped targeting reticle around the target, indicating an auto-target feature commonplace in mmos. However, once the shooting begins, a second circular reticle also appears on the target, possibly for aim or merely and indicator for the player he has engaged. I believe these to be a sure-fire sign that there will NOT be manual aiming.

A final point on 0:40, you can see that the attacker is level 30 (the mob is lvl 5), yet his single hotbar is not full of abilities. I take this as a good sign, pointing toward a game with fewer abilities that are always useful, rather than the MMO standard of 100 semi-useful or situational abilities.

0:41
Once again we are in the titan scenario (you can see the old titan shell in the far left of the screen). But this time we are able to get a feel for range, as many of the opponants are engaging one another from a fair distance. This type of extended range will further emphasize use of cover, possibly suppression, and of course the importance of closing distance as quickly as possible. Basically: Less button mashing, more strat!

0:45 & 0:53 & 0:56
The first glimpse of a Chaos Dreadnaught. Though from the video it appears to be a mob, it is nevertheless in the game, and that is always a good sign. Keep an eye on the supurb fire effects from the Dnaughts flamer. Very nice

0:47
Looks like multiple players are in the trukk. One stearing, one on the gun implacement DAKKA DAKKA (possibly more room).
So look for controllable battlefield vehicles.

0:48 he is knocking back CSM with a warhammer
Knockbacks are in the game, time will tell the magnitude

0:49
Imperial Guard. They do not appear to be players, but looks can be decieving, as they are located directly in front of the aged titan shell (damn that thing is in almost every action shot!).

0:51
Scout Marine. Clear as day.

0:57
Also solved is the mystery of wtf is that. You can see what appears to be the word "Imperator" on the lower trim of his robe, as well as "V" or "5" as a roman numeral on his right gauntlet. Given his unique white on white attire and psyker abilities, he is clearly an Imperial Confessor. What is not clear is if this is merely a mob or playable... lets hope both!

So other than knockbacks, scenarios, and a 2-faction system, all appears to be well with the game! Stay turned for more info and updates as we get them!

PS: Travis coined the phrase DMO (pronounced Dee-Mo) last night for "Dark Millennium Online". Its official.

Gearing up for 40k

by BENZIN, 128 days ago

Forum Image

Well, WAR proved that merely having a great IP does not guarantee you can make a great game. We all had our gripes, but there is no reason to dwell on what could have been. We moved on from WAR long ago, and Völkermord is once again setting our sights to the future...

The FAR future.

Forum Image

THQ, the game company responsible for the superb "Dawn of War" RTS series, has teamed with Vigil Games (creators of the critcally acclaimed "Darksiders") to develop a Warhammer 40,000 MMO.

Forum Image

The official game reveal is taking place at this years E3, which we are greatly anticipating.

Stay tuned for more info and updates.

Reikwald Falls!

by BENZIN, 593 days ago

Forum Image

Last night Destro pushed through heavy defenses and successfully captured Reikwald Fortress, marking the first time Ungrim has ever seen a fortress fall. Great job by all of Destruction!

Spurred by this unexpected loss, Order managed a fierce defence of the other racial pairings, with several large-scale O-RvR battles taking place, finally halting Destruction's progress in Kadrin Valley. A great time for all players on both sides!

Destruction Collaborates in Fortress Attempts

by BENZIN, 600 days ago

Forum Image

Yesterday, all of Destro worked together to make two attempts on Reikwald Fortress. Almost every guild on the server was well represented and our Alliance was the first on the scene. Good work from everyone... let's keep it up!

Behold the Alamanni

by BENZIN, 617 days ago

Forum Image

In Roman times, the Alamanni were an alliance of germanic tribes who banded together to fight against the powerful Roman Empire. In a similar fashion, the two highest ranking Destruction guilds on Ungrim, <Volkermord> and <Twist of Fate> have united to bring the battle to the forces of Order, and raze Altdorf to the groud.

At last...T4

by BENZIN, 662 days ago

Forum Image

It took longer to get here than we would have liked (hour long queues 4tw), but at last we arrive en masse in T4, as yesterday we organized a VK warband and rampaged through the last remaining pockets of resistance in the unlocked T4 zones: the keeps.

<<<Video coming soon!>>>

Forum Image

As seems to be the pattern, we began in Greenskins before proceeding to Chaos and finally to Dark Elf. Grats to everyone who was able to participate in another server first:

VK Attendees:
Benzin
Wriath
Eddie
Ludovico
Gromph
Pugpowah
Yefe
Zomfear
Wraeththu
Duh
Beherit
Exodus
Soulfelch
Erebus
Rinn
Scorchedearth (Stumplegrumps)
Helter
Condumb
Fathermagus
Kasmira
Necrodc
Pompadore

Our apps:
Kraven
Fitz

And of course we have to special mention Dragoness<Pak'Cafan> for her valuable contribution of unadulterated DPS throughout the night.

Of course, there just isn't a high enough population to spill the required victory points and unlock the next set of zones for capture, but rest assured, Altdorf; we will be knocking at your gates soon enough.

T2 is for chumps...

by BENZIN, 677 days ago

Forum Image

Tonight at 5pm est, Volkermord stormed into T3 and Black Fire Pass to take through force of arms what is rightfully ours: EVERYTHING. A VK-only warband ran the gauntlet of blackfire pass to capture both battlefield objectives and hammered down the gates of Gnol Baraz, steamrolling what little resistance was offered in what is believed to be yet another server first.

Though other non-guilded players were offered the chance to be a part of this momentous occasion, fear or doubt held them back, keeping them within the peaceful confines on the PvE questing areas.

A special mention to Shaman Kavu, for his heroic actions and amazing abilities as he tagged along for shits and giggles at the lowly level of 11. Perhaps even more amazing, the highest level present in the WB was a mere 24. Congratulations on a job well done.

First Keep Captures (Live)

by BENZIN, 681 days ago

Forum Image

Volkermord is pround to announce being the first guild (unconfirmed) on Ungrim server to successfully organize and capture a keep! But we didn't stop there! We took EVERY Order Controlled T2 Keep On Monday night (9-15-08, about 9:00 or so) with less than a full warband at each capture (levels ranged from 8 to 16). As of this writing, Order has still not taken back any of them. It's a shame the guild has not reached the rank required to claim one, but nonetheless a job well done.

Credit where credit is due: Volkermord may have run the warband and contributed 17 of its members, but during the hour or so it took to take all three keeps we had some quality help along the way. I'd like to make sure to mention the invaluable contribution made by <The Schism> guild, for having members present in the warband at each capture! Thanks guys you were great!

Below is a list of all guild-members (and non-guild members who were present for at least one keep capture!)

Volkermord Attendees:
Benzin
Typhus
Duh
Fathermagus
Wriath
Kale
Gromph
Ailtu
Darkintent
Beherit
Ashopedies
Erebus
Exodus
Enhasten
Helter
Rinn
Ludovico

Other participants (Much thanks guys, you were awesome):
Imurdaddytoo (TY for the shoulders btw! I owe you one!)
Greyfell
Vidurr
Flem
Shadowsong
Reibisch
Krymzen
Rallmar
Parys

PS: If I missed anyone it wasn't on purpose! Drop us a line in the pub forums and I'll make sure to update the list!
